Pieter Wagenaar


Pieter Wagenaar (supervisor within HERILAND at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) studied at the department of history at Leiden, after which he became PhD student at the same department. In 1997 he defended his thesis entitled ‘Dat de regeringe niet en bestaet by het corpus van de magistraet van Den Hage alleen’ – de Societeit van ‘s-Gravenhage (1587-1802): een onderzoek naar bureaucratisering [a study on bureaucratization at local government level].

In 1998, Pieter became assistant professor at the department of public administration at Leiden University, where he partook in Mark Rutgers’ pioneer project entitled ‘The Renaissance of Public Administration’. In 2001, he was appointed assistant professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Pieter’s research interests cover a range of topics concerning the informatization and history of public administration.
