Ron Janssen


Ron Janssen is associate professor at the department of Spatial Economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and member of the Spatial Information Laboratory (SPINlab) of this university. He specializes in decision support for environmental and spatial management. His main topics of research are decision analysis, spatial analysis/evaluation and spatial planning and design. Current topic of interest are the use of geodesign to support interactive land use planning workshops. Examples are the design of a land use plan for the lower Zambezi valley, design of regional adaptation strategies for the Frisian peat meadow areas, locating tidal devices around the Mull of Kintyre and heritage management in Puglia. Current geodesign projects are: design of nature based solutions for the Lahn river in central Germany, geodesign for the spatial management of road and water infrastructure in the Netherlands and geodesign to support better use of floodplains of the IJssel river in the Netherlands.
